Has Spring sprung at your house yet?

As the winter weather turns to spring and the temperatures begin to rise, home improvement thoughts move from inside to out.  By following the list below, you’ll get a jump-start on your spring cleaning chores, and free-up your leisure time for family and friends.

SPRING CHECKLIST
• Roof: Inspect roof surface and around vents, skylights and chimneys.  Inspect flashing, eaves, and soffits; repair as needed.
• Gutters and Downspouts: Clean-out late autumn & winter debris; inspect and repair any weak areas.  Direct downspouts to drain away from the house.
• Siding: Clean, inspect for cracks & holes; repair as needed.
• Exterior Caulking: Inspect caulking around windows, doors, etc., and replace any that appears to be deteriorating.  Old caulk can be easily removed with a carpet knife by slicing down both sides with the hooked blade lifting the caulk bead out intact.
• HVAC System: Have a professional tune-up your air conditioning system.
• Windowsills, Doorsills, Thresholds: Fill cracks, caulk edges, repaint; replace if needed.
• Window and Door Screens: Remove, clean and store storm windows.  Inspect screens for damage, and repair or replace as needed.  Clean screening and tighten or repair any loose or broken frames.

Seasonal home improvement tune-ups are a cost-effective way to avoid larger, more costly projects down the road.
